Scooby Snack RecipeWith 4/20 just a day away, I can’t think of a better time to publish our Scooby Snack drink recipe. We’ve been getting a fair number of people looking for it, so I guess you could say this article is by popular demand. Why is it called a Scooby Snack anyway? This Scooby Snack recipe is pretty tropical tasting. Maybe it got its name because Shaggy and Scooby might enjoy it along with one of those godawful sandwiches they put together. Don’t worry, after the recipe, we’ll talk about some of the reasons why Scooby-Doo and Shaggy are believed to be hitting the bong in the back of the Mystery Machine.

Scooby Snack

Scooby Snack Recipe

  • ½ oz Midori
  • ½ oz pineapple juice
  • ½ oz Baileys (or milk, or half and half)
  • ½ oz coconut rum
  • Splash banana liqueur (optional)
  • Whipped cream

Place Midori, pineapple juice, Baileys, coconut rum, and banana liqueur into cocktail shaker with ice. If you want, you can also add some whipped cream to this. Shake and strain into a short cocktail glass with ice. Top with whipped cream. Serve and enjoy!

The Scooby Snack drink is a quick one to put together, requiring about two minutes of your time. I can see why that petite Jersey girl with all the attitude likes these too.

Scooby Snack DrinkThe Scooby Snack is also sometimes known as a Snooki Snack. This tropical drink is the best of all worlds, with strong tones of pineapple and coconut, with hints of melon, Irish cream and banana. Whipped cream on top makes it the perfect drink if you have the munchies, like those eternal beatniks, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy.

So, Were Scooby and Shaggy Stoned?

Scooby Doo and Shaggy StonedWhile there isn’t any direct evidence that Scooby and Shaggy blazed up, I think the circumstantial evidence speaks loud and clear. The original show aired in the early 1970s, still the height of the hippie era. Even today, Shaggy still looks like someone you’d see rolling out of a van full of smoke. And the van itself was covered with a psychedelic paint job—think about it. Although the Mystery Inc gang apparently went to school in Massachusetts, Shaggy talks as if he’s a surfer dude from California. I know, don’t judge by outward appearances, right? Then how do you explain why Scooby and Shaggy always have the munchies, and are apparently so paranoid that they are always afraid of the “monsters”? Scooby “Dooby” Doo? And what exactly is in those Scooby Snacks that motivates Shaggy and Scooby so strongly?

Shaggy Loves Mary JaneThe original voice of Shaggy, Casey Kasem, swears that no one at the time ever saw the stoner context in Scooby and Shaggy, but over time people drew that conclusion anyway. When the live action movies hit in 2002–2004, not only did Velma become as hot as Daphne, but there were several visual gags that winked to the audience that Shag and Scoob were hitting the diggity dank. In one scence, smoke is roiling up from the back of the van, but it turns out the two are just cooking. In another sub-plot Shaggy gets a crush on a girl named Mary Jane. Of course, it takes a real lawyer like Harvey Birdman to get to the truth, as Shaggy and Scooby were finally outed for good as chronic potheads in the Adult Swim episode, Shaggy Busted.
