The Winter Solstice is the day when the Sun is lowest on the horizon at its peak, marking the midpoint of Winter. The Winter Solstice usually drops on the 21st or 22nd of December here in the Northern Hemisphere. To mark this annual occasion, we’re going to break out a drink recipe we first covered in 2011, the Winter Solstice. Fitting right in with the rest of the holiday drinks, this cocktail features tones of citrus and pomegranate.

Festivus is one of the newer winter holidays, joining the ranks of Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. While these more established holidays revolve around religious and cultural celebration, Festivus started as one family’s tradition. It’s all you hear about on TV these days. Kids are bringing Vodka Soaked Gummy Bears to school and getting wasted. Well, why should they have all the fun? Teri Porter is a spitfire and a whirlwind of energy. This is only the second time I’ve met her, and I can already see this clearly. Such is the life for the manager of The Distillery, a Midtown Sacramento bar and restaurant.
